Role Description
Engineering Services and Life Cycle Engineering provide engineering leadership to support a wide range of activities related to new and operating nuclear pressure vessels. Engineering Services provides commercial and technical leadership for a range of engineering studies including plant modifications, refurbishments and conceptual design studies for advanced reactors and small modular reactors (SMRs).
In this role you will also provide pressure vessel engineering support for our client’s Canada’s Field Services division. Life Cycle Engineering provides support for inspections and aging management of nuclear power plant components, primarily Steam Generators and Heat Exchangers.
Engineering Services Project Engineers
Provide technical support and direction for assigned projects related to Engineering Services and/or Life Cycle Engineering. Prepare and review calculations, assessments, reports and other documentation in support of nuclear equipment inspections and evaluations.
Act as the primary technical interface between the client and customers.
Perform Project Management functions for contracts related to Engineering Services, under the oversight of the Manager of Engineering Services.
This position reports to the Manager of Engineering Services and has no direct reports. It involves frequent communication with internal teams and external customers, including component engineers and project accountants. The role may require occasional travel and work outside regular business hours to meet customer needs.
Assignment Details:
Accountabilities:
- Completion of specific engineering deliverables for the assigned projects in accordance with the technical requirements, schedule and assigned budget, with the support of other engineering resources within the client organizaion.
- Interfacing with outside organizations (customer, vendor) to achieve the project technical requirements.
- Reviewing customer technical requirements.
- Ensuring Deliverables meet Code, customer, regulatory and client requirements.
- Supporting technical and commercial proposals for engineering studies and providing technical support for client’s Field Services proposals.
- Compliance with department operating procedures and quality assurance program requirements applicable to Engineering Services.
- Performing Project Management tasks including PO reviews, booking projects, and ensuring compliance with customer requirements.
- In addition to the above Engineering Services accountabilities, the following secondary accountabilities related to Life Cycle Engineering may be applicable to this role incuding supporting plant maintenance outages by leading engineering evaluations of inspection data to determine repair and maintenance activities required to meet the component structural integrity requirements. Assignments will be based on a combination of established methodologies and the development of new approaches in conjunction with other engineers.
Education, Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor or Masters of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Chemistry or equivalent).
- Experience and knowledge of (typically 5+ yrs):
- Nuclear pressure vessel equipment design and operation, including familiarity with the ASME Pressure Vessel Code (Sec. III and Sec. VIII), CSA N285.0 and N299.
- Degradation mechanisms related to pressure vessels and heat exchangers, including tube wear, stress corrosion cracking, FAC, etc.
- Working knowledge of Engineering Change Control (ECC) processes in nuclear power plants (would be an asset).
- Ability to support multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
- Capable of developing practical, innovative solutions to a range of technical challenges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional engineering designation (P. Eng) is an asset.
- Exposure to Project Management Principles and basic project financial concepts would be an asset.
